O Ring Material Selection – Overview

Our most popular O Ring Material is Nitrile (NBR) 70° Shore ‘A’. This is an Elastomer seal that can do the majority of standard industrial applications. These include Oil, Petrochemical, Water and the majority of chemicals up to 100°C and 1500psi (providing the mating surfaces and housings are adequate). For low temperatures (below -30°C), high temperatures and pressures, as well as hazardous chemicals and solvents, consideration must be given. Our team of experts can help you in determining what seal material is right for your application.

In recent years we have also had an increase in demand for specific materials approved for use with Food Machinery (FDA), Potable Water (WRc / WRAS) and the various Gas Standards. A commonly overlooked sealing requirement is for ozone, weathering, ambient, where Neoprene (CR), EPDM or Silicone (VMQ) perform better than Nitrile (NBR) in most circumstances.
