the challenge

Manufacturer of primary metals - electrical and stainless steel was experiencing a failure in the split pillow block bearing used on the cold mill fume elimination fan. It was failing prematurely due to the contamination. The contamination is not prevented from entering the pillow block bearing application with the current LER sealing system in place.

the solution

The split pillow block bearing is used in the fume elimination fan application. The contaminants that are causing premature failure are the oils and mildly acidic lubricants that are escaping the fan housing.

Due to the complexity of the assembly, the superior Split GUARDIAN® bearing isolator was proposed as a solution to the client. Split GUARDIAN® bearing isolator allowed the mill to function without any premature bearing failure in the fume elimination fan, optimising performance.
