the challenge

To provide a leading manufacturer of marine diesel engines, who is currently facing unplanned dry docks costs of €100,000 a day, with a high-temperature FKM seal that can last longer than 8,000 running hours.

the solution

M Barnwell Services decided on a highly fluorinated FKM that can withstand high temperatures and can cope with shifting of fuels from Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) to Light Fuel Oil (LFO).

the result

Field testing showed that Barnwell’s FKM increased the running time to 12,000 hours. It has performed with no failure and significantly reduced unplanned dry docks costs. It is now a specified rubber for the Fuel Injection Valve.
