the challenge

A Dietary Supplemental Beverage company based in the North East of England manufactures well known nutritional supplements using a steam retort to sterilize in batches after bottling. The trunnion doors that allow access to bearings (for maintenance and replacement) were encountering loss of load, resulting in leaks and gaskets being pulled into the process due to high vacuum during the heating phase. The company had previously used a competitor’s skived, glass-filled PTFE material but repeatedly faced gasket failure every three to four weeks.

We advised the company on the installation of a new gasket in conjunction with new lubricated bolts.

The company purchased two gaskets for a trial period, with both lasting the full eight-week maintenance cycle with no issues. The company continues to use our solution at their plant, reducing downtime and increasing efficiency.
